Indoor Mapping

A tech giant wanted to build an app for their large office facility in Lehi. The objective of the app was to guide outside visitors to find relevant places such as meeting rooms, coffee, restrooms etc. through an inbuilt indoor map, similar to Google map. They also wanted to keep track of the visitors inside the building.

Scope

A mobile app that will guide people to navigate within a large office building through an indoor map similar to Google map.

Solution

Guild visitors to find meeting rooms, track each visitor for the security purposes, visitor analytics etc.

Challenges

  • The Google map doesn't work inside a building. The main challenge was how to build a map which will detect the floor number within a large building.
  • While creating the map within the building, we had to visit the client’s office multiple times and needed their cooperation.
  • We needed someone from the client’s end who would guide us to understand their building layout.
  • There were restrictions on using beacons or any hardware within the building.
  • Map accuracy

Solution

  • We found a technology from a group of scientists which we used to create the indoor mapping.
  • Our team went to the Lehi office and traveled to each floor and location to create the map with the device. It was an existing journey to create an indoor map of a large building.
  • We got huge cooperation from the client and they gilded our team to every corner of the building.
  • We tuned the map again and again to achieve high accuracy.
  • Finally we delivered a secured mobile app.

  • Visitor registration through the app. Visitor could visit next time with a single button click
  • A map guides the visitors similar to Google map
  • Security personnel can track each visitor and the system could save the path of each visitor.
  • Map shows estimated time to reach a specific location within the building
